He had a couple time errors and wind problems on second run. Davey was heard to say at the finish line about making it into the Final, "I gave about 10 seconds away on my second run, but really enjoyed racing on the course today, especially my first run. I'm glad to have survived this game of musical chairs, and now I am looking forward to some great racing tomorrow." games have come to an end for three-time Olympian Davey Hearn. The 41-year-old
finished 12th in Monday's slalom canoe competition, behind France's
newly anointed gold medallist Tony Estanguet.
Hearn,
who has been providing journal
entries for myprimetime.com, qualified on Sunday to advance to the
finals with 280.89 total points. Though he had 6 penalty points, Hearn was not
entirely displeased with his qualifying runs. "This was a great way to
kick off the games," he told nbcolympics.com. "There were a few
butterflies, but I had a great attitude going into the race." In
Monday's final, Hearn scored a total of 258.57 points with 4 penalties.
Estanguet waxed the competition, finishing with 231.87. "I
am disappointed for the people who came here to support me and cheer for me
today," Hearn told nbcolympics.com, "But there is a lot of meaning
for me to be here as a 41-year-old paddler, with the next closest in age being
30. I am getting more and more used to congratulating those younger guys." How does he really feel? Is there one more Olympics in Hearn's future? Read Hearn's final journal entry. |
