The 50th annual CCA Potomac Downriver Race May 15, 2005
The following was posted on Monocacy Canoe Club message board by race chair Star Mitchell Additional links compiled & photos by Jennifer & Davey Hearn
The CCA Potomac Downriver Race was a great success. Eighty-two boaters ran the race. The weather and lunch were great. (Potomac River level was ~ 3.65 ft on the Little Falls Gauge.)
The names of forty of our lost boating buddies were read and the bell was rung once for each at the commemoration ceremony. Thank you for sending us so many names of people whose lives we wanted to remember and celebrate. A decorated Grumman canoe paddled by Susan Whitney and Steve Draper came in last as the sweep boat in memory of our departed friends. Bob Harrigan, who started the race 50 years ago and with three other men founded the CCA 49 years ago, attended the festivities. Thank you to all of our awesome volunteers!
